In October of 1990, a young girl from Northern Ontario got on her motorcycle and headed south in search of music and adventure. It was a new beginning. Travelling from town to town and festival to festival, that girl developed an affinity for a multitude of musical styles such as blues, jazz, bluegrass, swing and gypsy folk..... That girl is Darlene, a real troubadour who spends over 8 months out of each year on the road, often reserving winter months for writing, reflection and recording.
Darlene's vibrant and expressive performance style, both live and on each of her two C.D.s, reveals a seasoned and well travelled musician with an infective sense of spirit and positivity. Her songs are a magical melee of european gypsy, native north American, Cajun and modern roots influences, sung with a rich, strong voice, which is capable of evoking a different character from each tale. As a solo performer (guitar, accordian, vocals) or with "company", Darlene has proven herself a force to contend with and is steadily winning over fans worldwide with the release of her second disc "Motel Darlene". Her story telling abilities are the stitching that binds the quilt of multiple musical genres, strong enough to wrap around an entire audience, leaving them feeling safe and warm in her care.
As Darlene continues her journey, one can anticipate that she will find her way back to their town, to rekindle the fire that she has built in so many souls across North America and beyond. Wherever the sun may find her, you can be sure that Darlene will be singing with the force of a coastal storm and leaving as many people devastated by the awesome beauty of her spirit.
