"You know that Tom Wait's tune "what's he doing in there? Well, take our word for it, on Friday night those who peek in the window at Goodfolk will be asking "What are they doing in there?" Mike Shirkey's reputation for bringing first class talent to his house concerts will be stepped up a notch after this weekend, thanks to the Little Red Hens. The Little Red Hens are a New York based performance collective, well known, not just for their music, but for their stage proclivities. Three members of the group, Darlene, Jan Bell & Laura Freeman will make the Fayetteville trip for what might be considered a good old variety show.

Expect Darlene, a motorcycle riding Canadian gypsy, to be adorned in gypsy jewellry and amulets and hopefully with her squeeze box in tow. Darlene's box of tricks includes a melee of European gypsy tunes crossed with Native American, Cajun and modern roots. She has released two albums and was surrounded by some fine players on the recordings including members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Wallflowers.

Jan Bell, who hails from England, now produces and performs in New York's Urban Cowgirl Cabaret. Its country blues all the way in a delivery that will knock your socks off.

Laura Freeman is pure jazzy texas sass, but right out of the prohibition era. A voice that can deliver torch, country and vaudeville, she's been called a cross between Betty Boop and Bette Midler. A few years back we caught another trio from The Little Red Hens collective, the Be Good Tanyas at the now closed Fat City Cafe, and they blew us away. If they are a promise of what's on tap for Friday night, you'll be crazy if you don't catch this show."
